Algunas lecturas en torno a Malintzin

Abstract

This article seeks to reconsider some colonial and contemporary readings around a paradigmatic figure: Malintzin. With this objective I will divide our approach into four correlated sections. The first introduces some elements around the construction of the term Malintzin, highlighting those that are related with the Nahua cultural world. The second takes up the colonial chronicles of Bernal Diaz del Castillo (1632) and Diego Munoz Camargo (1584), identifying their specific contents related to her figure. The third delves into some contemporary contributions of a literary, historiographical and philosophical nature. To this purpose I will recover the literary appreciations of Octavio Paz (2013), the historical proposals of Matthew Restall (2003), and the philosophical approach of Bolivar Echeverria (2005). The fourth section functionalizes some final considerations related to Malintzin as useful perspective to problematize the contemporaneity of the conquest of Mexico. Lately, this article seeks to ask and reflect on Malintzin in terms of the construction of an imaginary that posits a multidirectional understanding of her figure.

Este artículo busca posicionar algunas lecturas coloniales y contemporáneas en torno a una figura paradigmática: Malintzin. Con este objetivo dividiremos nuestro acercamiento en cuatro secciones correlacionadas. La primera busca introducir algunos elementos en torno a la construcción del término Malintzin, subrayando aquellos que podemos identificar con el mundo cultural nahua. La segunda retoma las crónicas coloniales de Bernal Díaz del Castillo (1632) y Diego Muñoz Camargo (1584), identificando aquellos contenidos específicos relacionados con su figura. La tercera procura profundizar en algunas aportaciones contemporáneas de carácter literario, historiográfico y filosófico. Para ello recurriremos a las apreciaciones literarias de Octavio Paz (2013), a las propuestas históricas de Matthew Restall (2003) y al acercamiento filosófico de Bolívar Echeverría (2005). La cuarta sección posiciona algunas consideraciones finales relativas a la figura de Malintzin y su utilidad para una interpretación contemporánea de la conquista de México. Ulteriormente, este artículo busca volver a preguntar y reflexionar sobre Malintzin en términos de la construcción de un imaginario que posiciona una comprensión multidireccional de su figura.
