Diseño de un circuito guiado de observación de aves para el humedal del Río Lingüe y la Bahía de Maiquillahue, Región de Los Ríos, Chile

Abstract

El humedal del río Lingue, es uno de los sitios prioritarios para la conservación de la biodiversidad de la Región de los Ríos. Mediante la iniciativa del Sindicato Nº5 de Mujeres Trabajadoras de Productos del Mar, se está potenciando la gestión sustentable de este ecosistema a través del ecoturismo. En consecuencia, este trabajo se orientó a diseñar un circuito de observación de aves en bote, e identificar los usos del lugar con sus impactos potenciales sobre las aves. Se realizaron visitas a terreno durante las cuatro estaciones del año (entre enero del 2011 y marzo del 2012), complementadas con revisión bibliográfica, y en base a esto, se zonificó el área y se propusieron rutas turísticas cuyo fin es la observación de la avifauna. El recorrido propuesto abarca parte del río Lingue y la bahía de Maiquillahue, ya que los impactos asociados a los distintos usos que se le dan al lugar, no afectarían de forma relevante el circuito. Dentro de las recomendaciones destaca el realizarlo antes de medio día, debido a que el avistamiento de aves es más probable, concentrándose en los sectores de pastizales, troncos, juncales y roqueríos; destacando la Isla de Maiquillahue como el mayor atractivo por ser habitada por pingüinos de Magallanes (Spheniscus magellanicus). Por otra parte, es importante tomar en cuenta la estacionalidad en el circuito, ya que las especies migratorias estarán ausentes en algunas épocas, y en el periodo reproductivo las aves se encuentran más sensibles, por lo que se debe tener mayor atención a los potenciales sitios de nidificación (juncales, islotes y roqueríos). Para evitar eventuales impactos negativos del circuito, se consideran distancias máximas de acercamiento para cada especie, capacitaciones para los guías, indicadores para evaluar posibles cambios, capacidad de carga turística y un máximo de ruido asociado al funcionamiento de las embarcaciones. Con todas estas consideraciones, el circuito de observación de aves podría potenciar la educación ambiental del lugar y lograr la conservación del humedal a través de un manejo integral, en el que la participación de la comunidad local sea la base de su funcionamiento.

The Lingue river wetland is one of the priority sites of biodiversity conservation in Región de los Ríos. Through an initiative, developed by the Number five Seafood Women Workers Union, the sustainable management of this ecosystem based on ecotourism has been promoted. Consequently, this research was oriented to design a bird-watching boat track, identifying the land uses, and their potential impacts on birds. We made fieldwork along the four seasons (from January 2011 to March 2012) complementing with related literature review, we divided the study area in homogeneous zones and proposed possible ornithological touristic routes. The tour covers part of the Lingue River and Maiquillahue Bay, as the impacts associated with the various uses of the place would not affect the circuit. An important recommendation is to carry the track before noon, when watching birds is more likely, focusing on grassland, flooded forest trunks, reeds and rocks, being Maiquillahue Island the biggest attraction as it is inhabited by Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus. magellanicus). It is important to consider the seasons in this track, as migratory species will be absent at certain times of the year, and in the breeding season birds are more sensitive, so more attention is needed with potential nesting sites (reeds, isles and rocks). In order to avoid negative potential impacts of the track, we mention maximum distances for each species, special training for guides, indicators of possible changes, maximum tourist carrying capacity, and noise limits associated to the tours. With all these considerations, the birdwatching track could promote the local environmental knowledge and achieve the wetland conservation through an integrated management in which, community participation is the base.
