Abstract
Five control schemes to control Rhipicephalus sanguineus were evaluated in naturally infested dogs kept with their owners in the San Ramon County, Metropolitan Region Chile. Cypermethrin was poured on dogs every 20 or 30 days when infestation was the highest. The groups were: a) nine applications every 20 days, b) seven applications every 30 days, c) five applications every 20 days, d & e) same as the last two schemes but including two fumigations of the house and environment. A high efficiency was obtained with all the groups, detecting minimal differences among them. There was no significant difference when fumigation was included. Therefore, the use of five pour-on applications of cypermethrin every 20 days when the infestation is at a maximum (from September to December) is recommended. On the other hand, fumigation of the house and yard could be omitted.
