The purpose of this research is to contribute to the assessment of phonological awareness and to differentiate the development of this ability by age, as it is acquired in two periods. From age 4 develops the syllabic level; and from age 6, phonemic level. Both periods reflect the preschool and school stage respectively. The importance of phonological awareness lies in its relationship to literacy learning. The goals of this research are perform content validation of the Prueba de Evaluación de Conciencia Fonológica (PECFO) and determine the performance of phonological awareness in applying this test to 40 children with typical language development between 4 and 7 years, of municipal and particular-subsidized schools from Region Metropolitana, belonging to medium and medium-low socioeconomic levels. Regarding the content validation process, the results demonstrate that the PECFO is an appropriate instrument to assess the phonological awareness acquisition. Moreover, by comparing the scores of children of 4 to 5 years with the group of children aged 6 to 7 years, there are significant differences in the performance of both groups. This leads to the conclusion that Prueba de Evaluación de Conciencia Fonológica is an appropriate tool to effectively assess phonological awareness in children aged 4 to 7 years, because it establishes a significant difference in terms of performance to level of acquisition for this ability....

In Chile, a screening instrument doesn’t exist to diagnose the specific language impairment (SLI). The CELF-4 is widely used at international level to detect language alterations and to diagnose SLI with optimal results in terms of accuracy. This is why CLS of CELF-4 is applied to 15 children with SLI and 15 children with typical development (DT) from Lo Prado, to determine if the linguistic performance of the ones with SLI is inferior to the performance of the subjects with TD. On the other side, a valuation language scale is applied to parents and teachers, to describe the perception that they have over the children’s linguistic performance. With the application of the test is obtained that the performance of the children with SLI is inferior to the ones with DTL. The CLS four sub-items are meaningfully altered on the children with SLI, nevertheless, the sub-items that present bigger difficulties are “Word Structures” and “Remembering Sentences”, which are related with the working memory and procedural memory, cognitive processes that are normally affected on the children with SLI. Relative to the parent’s and teacher’s valuation, there isn’t a meaningfully difference on what both notice over the subjects with TD, which coincide with the test results, nevertheless, teachers have a bigger conscience about the student’s with SLI performance than the parents, which refer not to perceive most of their alterations....
