The existenceandstabilityofdiscretebreathersisstudiedtheoreticallyforamodelmagnetic
metamaterialcomposedofaperiodicbinaryarrayofsplit-ringresonatorswithresonancefrequency
mismatch.Itisdemonstratedthatbreatherscanbeexcitedspontaneouslybyfrequencychirpingofthe
drivingfield,amethodthatiswellsuitedforexperiments.
