Precursor feeding experiments to Annona reticulata leaves demonstrated that
coclaurine and reticuline are both derived from the common lntermediate norcoclaurine;
furthermore (S)-coclaurlne was found to be the speciflc precursor to the major classes of
lsoquinollne alkaloids: protoberberlnes, benzophenanthridlnes and morphinandienones.
