Restudy of the reaction of gallic acid and chloroacetic acid
Abstract
We report the reaction of gallic acid with chloroacetic acid and three equivalents of sodium hydroxide. In this reaction, 2,6-dihydroxy-4-carboxyphenoxyacetic acid (A) is produced instead of 2,3-dihydroxy-5-carboxyphenoxyacetic acid (B), previously informed(1)). The structure of (A) was established by C-13-NMR and also confirmed through XH CORR and COLOC bidimensional techniques, performed on the diisobutylester.
