The alkaloids of Strychnos medeola Sagot ex Progel Structure and configuration of normacusine B by spectral data. XXVI. On the alkaloids of Strychnos
Abstract
11-methoxydiaboline, an alkaloid previously described by us, was isolated from the root bark of Strychnos medeola, while from the stem bark of the same plant normacusine B, already known by the name of deoxysarpagine, was obtained. This is the first time this alkaloid was found in a species of Strychnos, whereas it had been previously found in different plants of the Apocynaceae family. The structure and configuration of normacusine B was confirmed by MS as well as on the basis on the basis of ORD curve and NMR spectrum of the corresponding O-acetyl derivative.
