Efecto de la poda de rebaje de árboles adultos sobre la productividad y calidad de fruto en duraznero "Carson"

Abstract

Durante la temporada 2012-2013 se realizaron dos ensayos en duraznero ‘Carson’, de 8 años de edad, injertados sobre patrón Nemaguard, plantados a una distancia de 5 x 2,5 metros, en el huerto “Agrícola Casas de Apalta”, ubicado en la Comuna de Rosario, VI Región. El objetivo general fue evaluar el efecto de la poda de rebaje de árboles adultos sobre la productividad y calidad de fruto en duraznero ‘Carson’. Para esto, se realizaron 3 niveles de poda: testigo, manteniendo la altura de manejo normal del huerto, correspondiente a 3,5 metros, y 2 niveles de rebaje en altura, “rebaje suave”, a una altura de 3 metros y “rebaje fuerte”, a 2,8 metros. Se analizó el comportamiento de cada tratamiento respecto de la carga frutal, utilizando una carga comprendida entre 120 y 350 frutos por árbol. Se cronometró el tiempo de poda, raleo y cosecha, con el objetivo de determinar el efecto del rebaje en el uso de mano de obra. Al momento de la cosecha, se determinó la producción por árbol, en número y peso de los frutos, su tamaño medio, y la distribución de tamaño en 50 frutos por árbol. Los parámetros de calidad determinados fueron; peso (g), diámetro (mm), firmeza (lb), concentración de sólidos solubles (%), acidez titulable, e índice de absorbancia de la clorofila (IAD). El rebaje de la altura de los árboles adultos mantuvo la productividad y calidad de fruto en comparación con el tratamiento testigo. En todos los tratamientos se obtuvo una mayor proporción de calibre conserva y sobrecalibre de frutos, 55,8% y 41,5% respectivamente, como promedio de los tres tratamientos. No se observaron diferencias en el tiempo de poda para ninguno de los tratamientos. El tratamiento de rebaje suave y fuerte no permitieron reducir significativamente los tiempos de cosecha y de rendimiento expresado por unidad de tiempo, sin embargo, el rebaje fuerte permitió reducir en un 20,3% el tiempo de raleo de frutos en comparación con el tratamiento testigo.

During the 2012-2013 season, two trials were conducted in eight-year-old ‘Carson’ peaches, grafted on Nemaguard, planted at a distance of 5 x 2.5m, in the “Agrícola Casas de Apalta” orchard, located at Rosario, VI Region, Chile. The aim was to evaluate the effect of topping adult trees on the yield and fruit quality in ‘Carson’ peach. Three levels of pruning were performed: control, keeping the normal height of the trees corresponding to 3.5m, and two levels of topping, slight topping to 3m in height, and heavy topping to 2.8m in height. A crop load of 120 to 350 fruits per tree was used in each treatment. Pruning, thinning and harvest operations were timed in order to determine the effect of topping on labor use. At harvest time, yield per tree was determined in fruit number and weight per tree, mean fruit size, and size distribution in 50 fruits per tree. The following fruit quality parameters were evaluated: weight (g), diameter (mm), firmness (lb), soluble solids concentration (%), titratable acidity (AT) and chlorophyll absorbance index (IDA). Topping the trees kept yield and fruit quality compared to the control treatment. In all treatments a higher proportion of medium and large fruit was obtained with mean values of 55.8% and 41.5%, respectively. No differences in pruning time among the treatments were observed. Neither slight topping nor heavy topping significantly reduced the time for harvest and harvest efficiency as expressed per unit of time; however, heavy topping reduced fruit thinning time by 20.3% compared to the control treatment.
