Uso de aceites esenciales complejos como anestésicos naturales en Colossoma macropomum: una revisión sistemática

Abstract

Diversas situaciones asociadas a la manipulación de peces durante el proceso de producción generan estrés con las consecuentes alteraciones fisiológicas que reducen su productividad. Para reducir dichas secuelas usualmente se emplean anestésicos sintéticos, sin embargo, se reportan trastornos fisiológicos asociados a su uso sumado al elevado costo de adquisición. Por otra parte, el uso de algunos aceites esenciales, que son productos naturales de origen vegetal, genera sedación y anestesia en los peces mitigando algunos de los efectos indeseados de los sedantes y anestésicos sintéticos. Esta estrategia promueve también el uso de alternativas amigables al medio ambiente y se fomenta la acuicultura sostenible. Para caracterizar el estado del arte del uso de aceites esenciales, como sedantes y anestésicos en Colossoma macropomum, que es una especie de gran interés acuícola en la Amazonía se realizó una revisión sistemática al respecto en las bases de datos Pubmed, Web of Science y SCOPUS. El resultado de la búsqueda permitió identificar 17 especies y quimiotipos de plantas cuyos aceites esenciales han sido utilizados como sedantes y anestésicos en C. macropomum. Posteriormente, se analizaron y compararon los metabolitos involucrados con estos efectos. Esta revisión sistemática es la primera en analizar de manera conjunta el efecto de los aceites esenciales y sus metabolitos sobre la sedación, anestesia y recuperación en C. macropomum, algunos de los cuales mostraron mejor desempeño que compuestos sintéticos comerciales.

Various situations associated with the handling of fish during the production process generate stress with the consequent physiological alterations that reduce their productivity. Synthetic anesthetics are used to reduce these sequelae, however, physiological disorders associated with their use have been reported, in addition to the high acquisition cost. On the other hand, the use of some essential oils, which are natural products of plant origin, generates sedation and anesthesia in fish, mitigating some of the unwanted effects of synthetic sedatives and anesthetics. This strategy also promotes the use of environmentally friendly alternatives and promotes sustainable aquaculture. To characterize the state of the art in the use of essential oils, as sedatives and anesthetics in Colossoma macropomum, which is a species of great aquaculture interest in the Amazon, a systematic review was carried out in the Pubmed, Web of Science and SCOPUS databases. The result of the search allowed the identification of 17 species and chemotypes of plants whose essential oils have been used as sedatives and anesthetics in C. macropomum. Subsequently, the metabolites involved with these effects were analyzed and compared. This systematic review is the first to jointly analyze the effect of essential oils and their metabolites on sedation, anesthesia and recovery in C. macropomum, some of which showed better performance than commercial synthetic compounds.
