| es_ES |
Abstract | dc.description.abstract | Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae (Pss) is the main etiological agent of bacterial canker in cherry, which causes significant production and economic losses. The control of this disease has been based mainly on the use of copper-containing products; however, their effectiveness has decreased due to the development of resistance by the pathogen. Furthermore, the repeated use of these products has led to the accumulation of copper in agricultural soils, affecting the environment. This study was focused on the search for antagonistic bacteria isolated from cherry orchards with a high incidence of bacterial canker. One hundred and eighty bacterial strains were isolated and subjected to in vitro confrontation tests, obtaining 17 potential Pss-controller strains. Three strains (B1, B2, and B3) were selected for in vivo testing, where they were identified as Bacillus velezensis by MLSA analysis. Trials on plants infected with two Pss strains (11116B1 and 11117YB4) showed that application with strains B1, B2, and B3 exhibited a controlling effect in two sampling periods. Although no statistically significant differences were found between treatments, there was a tendency for pathogen to decrease in the presence of antagonistic bacteria. These results suggest that they could be an effective option for the biological control of bacterial canker in cherry. | es_ES |
