Plan de manejo de residuos hospitalarios. Estudio de caso: Complejo Asistencial Dr. Sótero del Río.

Abstract

Los residuos hospitalarios son todos los residuos generados en hospitales, clínicas, laboratorios, consultorios y en general en todos los servicios de atención de salud. Debido al carácter infeccioso que algunos de éstos presentan, se habla del riesgo que puedan tener para la salud y el medio ambiente si no se manejan en forma adecuada. Es por esto que en el siguiente estudio se propone un plan de manejo para ellos, el cual es aplicado al Complejo Asistencial Dr. Sótero del Río, el que posee una gran variedad de servicios y, por lo tanto, constituye una muestra heterogénea de residuos hospitalarios. En una primera etapa se realizó un diagnóstico de la situación actual del manejo de los residuos, se visitó y observó distintas unidades del Complejo Asistencial y se realizó un muestreo de los desechos generados y que son dispuestos en el centro de acopio. Con estos datos, más la revisión de antecedentes y legislación vigente respecto al tema se realizó una clasificación para los residuos, la cual es indispensable para proponer un plan de manejo. Posteriormente se describió cada una de las etapas que implica un manejo de residuos, así como también los distintos tratamientos que existen actualmente para ellos. Estos tratamientos presentan impactos para el medio ambiente, los que son considerados en el momento de ser propuestos. Finalmente de acuerdo a distintas variables analizadas, se propone un plan manejo para los residuos del Complejo Asistencial, donde se detalla cada una de las etapas de manejo descritas anteriormente y las disposiciones que se deben cumplir en ellas. También se hace referencia a los tratamientos que se deben utilizar para cada tipo de residuo y las diversas opciones para su disposición final, aplicadas a este establecimiento.

The hospital wastes are the wastes generated in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, doctor's offices and in general in all the services of health attention. Due to the infectious character that some of these present, it is spoken about the risk that can have for the health and for the environment if they are not handled in a suitable form. That is why the following study proposes a plan of handling for them, which is applied to the Welfare Complex Dr. Sótero del Río, which has a great variety of services and therefore represents a heterogeneous sample of hospital wastes. On a first stage a diagnosis of the present situation of the handling of the wastes was made, different units of the Welfare Complex were visited and observed and a sampling of the generated wastes that are arranged in the storing center was made. With these data, besides the revision of antecedents and the effective legislation with respect to the subject a classification for the wastes was made, which is indispensable to propose a handling plan. Later each one of the stages was described, which implies a handling of wastes, as well as the different treatments that exist at the moment for them. These treatments present impacts for the environment, which are considered at the moment for being proposed. Finally according to different analyzed variables, a plan for handling the wastes of the Welfare Complex is proposed, where each one of the stages of handling which were describe previously and the dispositions that are due to fulfill in them are detailed. Also we made reference to the treatments that must be use for each type of wastes and the diverse options for their final disposition, applied to this institution.
