Abstract
dc.description.abstract
Through qualitative research, this thesis focuses on audiovisual translation (AVT) and the problems in translation from Chilean Spanish into English. We focus on the impact of these problems in the studied case of subtitles in the movie “My Tender Matador.” Furthermore, we inspect the different translation techniques in our case and the influence the various approaches in translation have on the sociocultural aspects of audiovisual translation, such as intercultural communication, mediation, and reception. In this process, we identify the concepts of techniques, methods, and strategies employed in audiovisual translation. Additionally, we characterize the understanding of Chilean Spanish and the notion of “Chilenisms.”
